What is a Community First Responder

Community first responders are specially trainied by the ambulance service to render

life saving emergency aid and respond 999 Emergency calls locally in the community

typically within  4-5 miles of home..  Alerted by the Ambulance service they are often

able to arrive before an ambulance or response car, ready to give emergency aid to

patients when they need it the most, saving lives & promoting recovery.

Hemel CFR Group

A CFR demonsting CPR

Hemel CFR group has been operational for 10 years. each of our volunteers typically gives 18-20 hours per month. with an additional 10 hours of time spent training and developing new skills. Each responder is required to attend the on-going training and pass an annual competence assessment. Our group is solely funded by donations, which we use to purchase & maintain all of our equipment such as our life saving defibrillators. We are very grateful to the Lions club of Hemel Hempstead for their recent donation enabling the purchase of a complete additional Response kit. Volunteers receive no financial reward or expenses for their service.

We are sent to some of the most urgent 999 calls such as Cardiac arrest, unresponsive casualties, breathing difficulties, heart attacks & strokes just to name a few.

The most recent research suggest that during a cardiac arrest receiving defibrillation and effective CPR within the first 3-5mintues increases your chance of survival from around 6% up to 74%* in some cases.  This is why your CFR team is vitally important to the local community in getting the vital skills & equipment to patients promptly.
